Bacchanal Berry (どんちゃん騒ぎベリー, Donchansawagi berī, lit Binge Berry) is one of the Olympian Ingredients, located in the forests of Area 5.

Description[]

A Bacchanal Berry is a round, bright orange fruit, composed of many flame-shaped components with swirl patterns on each one, and has a swirled stem on the top. It is small enough to be held in one hand. The green stem that grows from the top of the berry is said to be like a cork. The flame-shaped components are actually part of the rind, similar to scales, and are to be peeled off before consumption.

As Food[]

The Bacchanal Berry can be eaten as is, without any preparation needed. However, eating it in this manner leaves the berry with a strong, bitter alcohol flavor that is not said to be enjoyable. Plus, if eaten without preparing the Ingredient, the consumer will end up black-out drunk, waking up three months later with a fatal feeling hangover, providing they survive those three months.

Special Preparation[]

The proper way to prepare a Bacchanal Berry is to carefully peel each and every one of the flame-shaped scales of rind. There is a specific order to which scales are peeled off when, which the Chef is able to determine through the Voice of the Ingredients.

While that sounds simple enough, there's an extra difficulty: as each bit of the rind is peeled off, the Bacchanal Berry will begin to smell sweeter and sweeter. This odor sends a signal to the brain of anyone who can smell it which drives up their appetite, making them want to consume the berry before it can be properly prepared.

If one is able to finish peeling the Bacchanal Berry, they will be left with the flesh of the fruit, which is a deep, orange-red color, with the stem still attached. If the stem is still attached to the fruit, it can be removed by twisting it out like a cork and corkscrew.

Once the stem has been removed, the juices of the Bacchanal Berry can be simply poured out of the top of the fruit. The juice tastes like the finest of vine ripened wines, aged to perfection. However, unlike an unprepared Bacchanal Berry, there is absolutely no alcohol flavor, making it very easy to get drunk quickly on the juices without realizing it.

If, at any point before preparation is complete, the stem is removed from the Bacchanal Berry, the juice of the berry can be obtained through crushing the fruit, or through consumption. However, it is said that consuming the Bacchanal Berry in this way leaves a bitter aftertaste in the mouth.
